Spin
SPIN is a 35-minute essay film that deconstructs deeply entrenched myths about Denmark during the Holocaust and unmasks a far more nuanced wartime experience - both its bravery and its blemishes. It starts by unpacking the legend around King Christian X supposedly ordering all Danes to wear a yellow star so the Nazis could not identify and round up the Jews. It dives further into Denmark's collaboration policy, revealing that it went so far as to supply some Danish businesses with Jewish and Roma forced-laborers. SPIN sheds light on the less flattering aspects of Denmark’s World War II legacy, and inquires into how selective memory and public relations campaigns managed to cultivate an overwhelmingly positive brand for the country that has survived until today.
